“Gratitude” is not merely a virtue admired by society, but also a legal duty requiring children to care for and support their parents under the Civil and Commercial Code, which stipulates that family members are obligated to support one another.

Associate Professor Dr. Rattichai Rodthong, Lecturer in Law at the College of Politics and Government, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, shared a legal perspective on “gratitude,” emphasizing that it is not only a matter of morality and Thai cultural values, but also a legal responsibility that children should recognize and fulfill toward their parents.

With extensive expertise in law both domestically and internationally, Associate Professor Dr. Rattichai Rodthong holds a Master of Laws degree from Ramkhamhaeng University, a Master of Laws (International Law) from The University of Hull, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Brunel University London.

This perspective reflects that “law” serves not only to define rights and responsibilities within society, but also as an important mechanism for promoting morality, responsibility, and the strength of family institutions in Thai society.
