“Legal Knowledge Training Program to Improve the Quality of Life for Inmates”

From June 18 to 20, 2025, the Justice Innovation Development Division organized the “Legal Knowledge Training Program to Improve the Quality of Life for Inmates” at Kanchanaburi Provincial Prison (Session 1). The program featured Assistant Professor Thanawat Phisitjinda and Mr. Chaturong Permrungreung, lecturers from the Department of Law, College of Politics and Governance, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, along with Ms. Rittsa Thepchomphu, a legal officer from SPJ Law Office and Consult Co., Ltd., as the speakers. A total of 40 inmates participated in the training.

On the first day, the speakers delivered a lecture on basic legal principles, including the definition and types of laws, such as criminal law and civil and commercial law. Topics covered included persons, property, family, inheritance, torts, and legal transactions. The lectures also included real-life examples of common legal offenses, such as drunk driving, borrowing and lending, animal-related nuisances, and restricted items at airports.

On the second day, the session focused on property law, including types of property, acquisition of land ownership through adverse possession, servitudes, and debt-related laws—creditor and debtor relationships, and debt termination.

On the final day, the speakers addressed family and inheritance laws, including marriage and registration, marital property, equal marriage rights, adoption, and conditions for legal adoption.

In addition to the lectures, the speakers provided legal consultations on various cases to address concerns, reduce stress, and alleviate anxiety. Inmates were also given pre- and post-training tests each day to assess their learning. The trainers offered encouragement to support inmates in becoming productive members of society after their release. The inmates actively participated in discussions and Q&A sessions throughout the program.
